Some time ago I was flicking through a Debbie Bliss book and instantly decided that I would make the gorgeous looking baby blanket for a good friend who was pregnant at the time. Of course I didn't think about it, I just rushed out and bought a whole stack of Jo Sharp Silk Road to make it with. I started work on the blanket soon after and then realised that knitting countless boring little garter stitch squares and then seaming them togther (oh how I loathe seaming) was just not my idea of a good time. In fact, it was hell. So I abandoned the idea and started looking round for something else to make with the beautiful yarn I had so hastily purchased.
Eventually I found a gorgeous looking kids scarf in Candy Tots and decided to upsize it to fit me. I pulled out my hook and crocheted madly for about two days but then ran out of enthusiasm when I decided I had botched the order of the stripes. Sure enough, the whole mess got put back into the cupboard where it sat for over a year.
The most depressing thing about relating this story is that it so aptly sums up my crafting personality - easily enthused, inclined to start projects hastily, then deterred at the slightest setback and likely to pack it all in at the drop of a hat. The good news is that this particular project ended well. I unearthed the unfinished scarf just last week and (probably as I have an important work deadline) found that I had an irrepressible urge to crochet. So, after 18 long months my baby blanket yarn has finally been put to good use.
Today I was getting Richard to take a picture of me wearing the scarf but Ella kept jumping into shot at the last minute. I like how in this photo I am still trying to 'model' the scarf despit having daughter attached to my leg. Hilarious!
The best things about the baby blanket scarf (aside from being so warm and soft) is the cool ribbing effect that gives each side a completely different colour scheme and the excellent pom poms on the end. I am offically in love with pom poms and I resolve to put them on as many things as I can, especially anything that I happen to be making for my younger sister who quite rudely insulted them when she was visiting earlier today. Her birthday is coming up in August - perhaps I could make her a scarf like this!
It's a wonderful scarf!!
Perhaps this will inspire you to finish other projects too ;)

Ha ha! What an awesome pom pom scarf! I didn't really insult your scarf, I just think pom poms bring down an item of clothing somewhat and consequently, I don't think the pom poms do your beautiful scarf justice. Now what about some nice tassles? They do the same job as a pom pom, but without making a mockery of the wearer.

Don't listen to that sister of yours. She can't even take care of her scarves long enough to wear them.
